Guidelines For Selecting Good Topics For Argumentative Research Papers

As a general rule of thumb, you should be looking for different interesting and disputable topics to write about when you are looking to complete your argumentative research paper. First of all, you have to understand that it doesn’t have to be an issue that has an effect on us currently, which means you could talk about certain issues that have happened it the past and comment on its implications. The great thing about argumentative research paper is its extreme flexibility. That’s why people love writing about these papers!

Now here are a few guidelines that you need to know when you are selecting some good topics:

The issue should not have a conclusion

There wouldn’t be much of a point if your argumentative research paper already has a conclusion. It wouldn’t be an argumentative work if that were the case. There are absolutely millions of different things that you could talk about and the possibility is just endless. In fact, there will more questions raised everyday than they are answered. But that is the beauty of these research papers; you must be able to ask critical questions and work on it!

Be creative

It doesn’t matter if your topic is not discussed too often. You should be creative when you are writing your work. As long as you are delivering a legitimate topic, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t think outside the box! Keep in mind that you should be providing an argument to your readers but it doesn’t matter where you decide to side yourself in the argument.

Consult your tutor

It is certainly worth the time consulting your tutor regarding your research paper topic. They know what these topics extensively and they would be able to give you advice on how you should approach your assignment. As they are the ones marking your research paper (along with external markers), it would obviously be a good idea to see what they are looking for!

Must spark an argument

As the name suggests, the paper must get the interest of readers and it should easily spark a discussion on the topic. There are many topics that you can discuss about; think about something like ‘whether it is wrong to kill animals for meat’ and something on a similar line.

Remember that you don’t have to provide a conclusion! You just have to choose a side in your assignment and then that’s the key!
